Climbing

Climbing Team

Since the team’s inception in 2008, the program has flourished into one of the premier training programs for youth climbers in the country. For the past seven years the Multnomah Athletic Club's Climbing Team has ranked nationally, with 10 different athletes receiving USA Youth National Team invitations. Additionally, the team holds more than 10 state championship titles and has produced multiple state and divisional champions, culminating with the program’s rank as the best in Oregon. The MAC Climbing Team serves youth ages 7-18 and aims to grow athletes holistically, while building strength, confidence, self-awareness, problem-solving skills, and life-long friendships. The program’s balanced focus on fun, community, and competition is what keeps athletes coming back year after year for a coveted spot on the team.

Coaches

Justin Rom, Head Climbing Coach

jrom@themac.com
Justin grew up in Northern California and has been climbing for over a decade. After starting at MAC nearly 12 years ago as a lifeguard and swim instructor in the aquatics department, he eventually moved to the outdoor department where he has been coaching climbing and route setting since 2015. In his free time, Justin enjoys skiing, exploring Portland’s culinary scene, and spending time with his wife, two cats (Harvey and Maya), and dog (Katya) at home.

Page Brady, Assistant Climbing Coach

pbrady@themac.com
Page, originally from Southern California, started out climbing as a youth competitor in the American Bouldering Series. She has been coaching the last five years and has coached many athletes at the USAC National level. Page is currently working on her National Academy of Sport Medicine certification with an emphasis in Youth Exercise. When not in the climbing gym she enjoys spending her time hiking, playing with her dog, and creating wood burning projects.

Trout Hartung, Assistant Climbing Coach

thartung@themac.com
Trout started climbing at the age of 15 for Alaska Rock Gym’s competitive climbing team and has been an active climber ever since. Trout moved to Oregon when he started college at Oregon State University to become a Mechanical Engineer.
